We Love Soaps Tuesday, August 10, 2010 | Posted by Damon L. Jacobs THE BAY The Series Interviews: Mary Beth Evans, Part Two In Part One of our interview with THE BAY’S Mary Beth Evans, she discussed her journey of joining THE BAY as a producer and actress, as well as her years on RITUALS, and getting hired on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  In Part Two below, we discuss the phenomenon of Steve & Kayla, the downfall of Shane & Kayla, and her time as ill-defined Katherine on GENERAL HOSPITAL. WE LOVE SOAPS TV: That time of Steve & Kayla is still regarded as such a special time in soap history.  What in your mind makes that story so special to this day? Mary Beth Evans: I was just talking to Shelly Henning [Stephanie on DAYS] about this the other day.  She was saying she had gone onto You Tube to look at something and came across those clips.  She said, “You guys were just so amazing, there is nothing like that anymore.”  I think there a couple of things about that.  My character was strong, but she was so young and naive.  Steve was a badboy, but the thing that was cool about him was that he had this incredible vulnerability.  That sweetness with his rough exterior was a great combo.  Now I’m not like this, but people...

“Ancestral Family Favorite Recipe,” Hybrid Mom Blog, August 5, 2010

Ancestral Family Favorite Recipe Thursday, August 5th, 2010 Last night we were in for a big treat.  My best friend Carrie’s nieces were in town and whenever they visit she always cooks up the ancestral family favorites.  Their paternal great-grandmother was Lebanese and she taught Carrie’s mother this recipe and she passed it down to her girls and Carrie is doing the same (she showed me years ago).  I have also made it with steamed cabbage, but these little stuffed grape leaves are yummy!  Try the cabbage though if grape leaves are not your thing because this simple combination of ingredients is delicious together and the lamb riblets are to die over.   Ingredients: 2 jars toughed grape leaves (this serves 10 so it can easily be cut in half) 4 lbs of lamb riblets 3 lbs of ground lamb 2 cups of minute white rice 1 cup of pine nuts 5 gloves of  garlic 2-3 lemons Generous amount of cinnamon (do more than you think, it gets absorb) Salt and pepper 3  11-½ oz cans of V8 juice 2   lg cans of stewed tomatoes Brown riblets in salt & pepper over medium heat.  Remove from pan, blot on paper towel and drain oil out of pan. Add one can of V8 and two cans of tomatoes that you squeeze through your fingers to break them up and make a...
